1. The Witches (1990)
You cannot categorize the movie ‘the Witches’ as a horror film. This is because the movie is a simple film that can even be watched by children. A lot of people have recommended the movie. The film is produced from the children’s novel titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which is authored by Roald Dahl. Dahl hails from a very traditional background where story-telling is used to scare children instead of comfort them. The featured scary witches was designed by Henson Jim, known for his creepy test in puppets in his film Labyrinth plus The Storyteller which is a TV series. Anjelica Houston played the part of a Grand High Witch that hates children. The movie was produced by Roeg Nicolas who also directed the movie, ‘The man who fell of the earth’ in 1976.
2. Season of the Witch (1973)
The Season of the Witch because popular as it was produced by G. A. Romero who is a legendary zombie filmmaker. The movie is a horror movie featuring Joan (acted by Jan White),a suburban housewife and his aggressive husband Jack (acted by Bill Thunhurst). Joan gets to meet Marion (Virginia Greenwald) her new neighbor who practices evil. She starts to makes spells to get the attention of Gregg (acted by Raymond Laine) who is her daughter’s lover. She (Joan) starts to have scary nightmares. The movies are also known by another title ‘Jack’s Wife plus Hungry Wives”, this movie by Romero still have division among its critics even forty years after it was released. Most of the critics are of the view that the movie has poor production values, is sluggish, has poor acting and lacks subtlety. Others adores the movie for its positioning of feminism.
3. The Witches (1966)
The witches was produced by the legendary Hammer Films. The movie, known also known as ‘The Devil’s own was released in 1966. The storyline is about an English schoolteacher who after her bad experience in Africa accepts a tutoring job in the countryside in England. As unprecedented events begin to unfold all around her, she gets to know about the existence of comtemporary witches, and this made to start questioning her mentality. The Witches is a movie adaption of the popular novel ‘The Devil’s Own’ written by the author Norah Lofts who works with the author name Peter Curtis. Nigel Kneale, a professional screenwriter from Britian, known for writing thrillers combined with science fiction and horror, adapted the novel into a screenplay. The movie was directed by Frankel. C and is known as the last movie part of Joan Fontaine, the Oscar-winning actress.
4. The Lords of Salem (2012)
Goth rocker Rob Zombie is a famous cult movie maker. He is known for some of his early movies ‘House of 1000 Corpses which he released in 2003 and the Devil’s rejects which was released in 2005. In the movies, he dived into Satanism and witchery which is a film about Heidi who is a recuperating drug addict.
